San Diego is notorious for being lush with famous breweries throughout all corners of the city. There are hardly any hangouts that don’t feature a vast selection of locally-brewed, craft beer. Outside of the most well-known breweries like Stone and Ballast Point, North County is sprinkled with more microbreweries than most are even aware of. Besides, if you’re in Encinitas, what’s better than getting in with the local perspective and unveiling the hidden gems?  Here are the 5 best breweries a stone’s throw away from Encinitas.

5. Arcana Brewing Company | Carlsbad

Located in neighboring Carlsbad, Arcana Brewing Company offers authentic decor, a well-equipped draft list, and a super knowledgeable staff. Going for a visual theme of metallic elements mixed with science fiction, the overall attitude is friendly and quirky. This fairly new brewery took the place of Fezziwig’s Brewing Company and is growing with grace. Their draft list has evolved over time reaching about nine total beers currently, and their fanbase has also thrived over time. With flavors ranging from floral, to honey, to coffee, the staff of Arcana has fun both creating and serving their masterpieces to their guests.

4. The Lost Abbey | San Marcos

The timeless battle between Good vs. Evil embodies the history and theme of San Marcos’ The Lost Abbey. Derived from an idea and a talent finally coming together through another local favorite called Pizza Port, The Lost Abbey has managed to surpass some high expectations. They keep a range of five to fifteen of their own Belgium-inspired creations on tap whether year-round or seasonal, and they even bottle some of the favorites. The Lost Abbey has paired up with another renowned brewing company called Port which they incorporate into their selection. Needless to say, there is a lot of passion behind this brewery’s mission.

3. Culture Brewing Co. | Solana Beach

This newborn brewery located in Solana Beach was brought to life last February and named Culture Brewing Co. The modern and trendy atmosphere goes well with its lifespan, but don’t be discouraged. Culture has really made a name for itself managing to be incorporated into local Encinitas bars. They have twelve drafts to choose from and their tasting room lies inside the actual brewery. With both an indoor and outdoor area to explore their blondes, ambers, browns and blacks, Culture’s 7-day a week schedule should be penciled in to yours.

2. Iron Fist Brewing Company | Vista

Just as stimulating as it sounds, Iron Fist Brewing Company supplies the area of Vista with ten original drafts to choose from as well as a complementary push of ardent encouragement.  Each draft is given a cultivating name to go along with the family-owned business ethic. Although their specialty lies in Belgian beer, they’re still fully equipped with an IPA and stout selection. Accompanied by a bright and lively tasting room and popular following, Iron Fist manages to stand out in an area of competitors.

1. Rip Current Brewing | San Marcos

Another San Marcos brewery brought the beachy element to its inland home and did so with the help of two friends with a passion for beer. This casual brewery sustains the mellow Southern California mentality through its theme and attitude. Managing to take over a tap in over 60 local bars in North County, Rip Current explores an impressive amount of varieties in beers. Not only are their flavor combinations daring and bold, but the staff is very laid back and personable. Rip Current caters to the abundance of IPA lovers with a surplus of hoppy savors, but does not leave out the pale ales and dark stouts. While working their way to the top of local listings, Rip Current is always representative of what SoCal brewing is all about.
