La Paloma Theater on Highway 101 in Encinitas, CA has been an entertainment venue since 1928.It opened with a film starring Mary Pickford and was one of the first theaters in southern California to feature "talkies". Over the years this famous Spanish Colonial Revival theater has been the host to many local events, concerts, plays and even vaudeville acts. Today it serves as a movie theater showing both current and vintage films daily. Every Friday at midnight it shows the Rocky Horror Picture Show. The venue is a great reminder of past movie theaters with decorative lights and high arched ceilings. It is oozing with character and worth a visit. Dress warmly or bring a lap blanket as the heating can be questionable. The owner's dog occasionally "cleans up" the popcorn after the evening shows!
